Garden Oaks was laid out in the 1930s with deep lots and room for trees, and today's cottages and new builds still sit under the same oaks and pines. Walks stay on the shaded interior streets off Garden Oaks Blvd rather than on Shepherd, and we are used to gated side yards, back-porch water bowls and dogs who would rather patrol the yard than leave it.
